FDA Recalls Trasylol - Cites Increased Kidney Damage and Failures
On November 5, 2007, the FDA recalls Trasylol from the market due to seriously increased risks of kidney failure, heart attacks and strokes. The FDA recall of Trasylol stems from Dr. Dennis Mangano's latest findings, in which he concluded that 22,000 cardiac patients could have been saved if Trasylol had been taken off the market in January 2006 when his Trasylol side effects study was first published. Bayer failed to disclose the existence of the Trasylol study during the Advisory Committee on September 21, 2006 and continued to market Trasylol for use in cardiac procedures knowing about severe Trasylol kidney failure.
